As explained in the State Border Committee, with the start of a special military operation, the flow of vehicles – which was observed in previous years – is absent at the Novaya Guta checkpoint. This creates special conditions for the protection of the state border, in particular, in directions adjacent to the border checkpoint. Along the perimeter adjacent to Novaya Guta, additional video cameras have been installed that operate around the clock.

“The Semenovka frontier post protects 18.4km of state border with Ukraine. This process has undergone a number of changes since the beginning of the special military operation. One of the essential changes was the mandatory wearing of body armour and steel helmets. The workload on personnel has increased significantly,” the border department added.

The State Border Committee also noted that there is no reliable data from the Ukrainian side about who guards the border. “Since there are various reports that the border is guarded by both territorial defence units and unidentified military formations. There were servicemen in various uniforms, with different equipment, aged from 18 to 55 years,” the State Border Committee commented.

Engineering works are also actively carried out. In the spring-summer period, anti-vehicle ditches were equipped on the Ukrainian side, and mine obstacles were erected, as evidenced by the presence of corresponding signs on the state border section. Moreover, in the direction of the main roads and settlements, anti-vehicle ‘hedgehogs’ were installed, blockages were equipped. From the side of the Ukrainian border, roar of gunfire in the direction of Chernigov and submachine gun burst are periodically heard.

The State Border Committee assured that the personnel on the Belarusian side are sufficiently prepared, have the appropriate skills and are ready to perform the tasks assigned to the unit.
