Nauseda shared concerns about attempts to weaken EU sanctions against Russia

Before the start of the last European summit in 2022, Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda said he was concerned about attempts by a number of EU countries to ease sanctions against Russia ‘under the pretext of food security’, RIA Novosti reports

The EU summit, which takes place in Brussels on December 15th, discusses the issue of Ukraine, as well as the energy situation in the EU and its plans for 2023.

“It is necessary to maintain [anti-Russian] sanctions as tough as possible. There is some concern about attempts to weaken the sanctions mechanism under the guise of food security. This issue should not be used as an excuse to ease sanctions against some Russian oligarchs," Mr. Nauseda noted.

By the way, it has become known that the EU countries failed to agree on the ninth package of sanctions against Russia. They are close to an agreement, but some member states have objections.
