US plans to deploy nuclear weapons in Britain as early as 2023

The US government has decided to place its nuclear weapons in Britain, with the UK added to the list of countries where infrastructure investment is under way at ‘special weapons’ storage sites – as reported by Lenta.ru

The list also includes the Netherlands, Germany, Turkey, Belgium and Italy, each of which stores about 100 American B61 hydrogen bombs.

Royal Air Force Lakenheath (located 100km from London) has already begun to be modernised so that in the future it will be possible to deliver the new generation of F-35A Lightning combat aircraft able to carry a nuclear charge.

The United States has stored its nuclear weapons in Britain for at least fifty years. They took it out in 2008: on the one hand, because the B61 bombs are outdated, and on the other hand, as part of the disarmament programme of the nuclear powers. According to The Guardian, the US government changed its attitude towards this issue after the start of Russia’s special military operation in Ukraine.
