The UN is keen to resume the Black Sea initiative.

“With global hunger on the rise, all food supplies matter, and agricultural exports across the Black Sea remain critical to supporting international food security,” said Deputy Spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General Farhan Haq.

Thus, Secretary General of the UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) Rebekah Greenspan and the UN Deputy Secretary General for Humanitarian Affairs Martin Griffiths held talks in Moscow on October 9th with Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Vershinin, and on October 10th they arrived for a meeting in Istanbul with Turkish Deputy Foreign Minister Burak Akçapar.

TASS reports that the UN confirmed its intention to continue efforts to ensure the free export of food and fertilisers from Ukraine and Russia.

Answering a question about the progress in the negotiations, Haq said that at the moment he could not provide any additional data, and that the UN was aimed at achieving the greatest possible result in the issue of resuming the grain deal. Efforts will be made to achieve this.
