Russian Foreign Ministry: routes of ships from Black Sea ports of Ukraine poorly meet the goals of helping Africa

The geography of the movement of ships leaving the Black Sea ports of Ukraine does not correspond to the tasks of the UN to help those in need in Africa and Asia, reads the message of the Russian Foreign Ministry, TASS reports

The department stressed that, according to the UN, 39 vessels have already used the Black Sea corridor (including 19 previously blocked in Ukrainian ports).

“The geography of the further movement of ships is also noteworthy: Turkey (16 – we proceed from the fact that part of the grain coming to Turkey will be processed into flour and sent to countries in need), Italy (4), South Korea (3), Romania (2), China (2), Egypt (2), Israel (2), the Netherlands (2), Ireland (1), Iran (1), Greece (1), Libya (1), Germany (1). At the same time, so far only one vessel, chartered by WFP, with 23,000 tonnes of wheat on board, is heading to Djibouti (with further transportation of cargo to Ethiopia). This does not correlate well with the goals and objectives of the ‘Black Sea Initiative’ declared by the UN leadership to feed the needy in poor and developing African and Asian countries,” the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
