Russian Foreign Ministry: EU lost about $1.5 trillion due to anti-Russian sanctions

This was stated by Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Aleksandr Grushko, speaking at a session dedicated to new mechanisms of trade-investment and technological co-operation in a new international context as part of the 16th Verona Eurasian Economic Forum

“It is impossible to calculate the losses that Europe suffered. Experts say the amount ranges from several hundred billion US Dollars to $1.5 trillion. But if we you approach this in a non-accounting way and take into account lost profits, as well as direct and indirect losses to the economy, then this figure will be much higher,” noted the official.

As an example, the Deputy Head of the Russian Foreign Ministry cited the situation with German industry, “Today, Germany receives gas at prices three times higher than on the US domestic market. As a result of this, we see the deindustrialisation of Europe taking place and some productions flowing to the USA.”

Aleksandr Grushko also noted that at present no one doubts that the global and tectonic changes taking place worldwide, which resulted in the transition to a multipolar world order, are irreversible, “New centres of power are being formed before our eyes, primarily in Eurasia, Latin America, Asia-Pacific and Africa. Increasing number of countries in the mentioned regions are striving to strengthen their sovereignty and pursue an independent foreign policy, guided by deep-seated national interests. At the same time, more and more states are actively participating in the formation of a new architecture of international relations, including through the development and strengthening of regional integration structures. One example of such an association is the EAEU, whose key principles of functioning include equality and mutual respect.”

According to him, today countries that were key links in the North-South and West-East transport corridors are turning themselves into transport dead ends in Europe.

“They wrap themselves in barbed wire, dig anti-tank ditches, turn regions adjacent to Russia into NATO military manoeuvre zones, and fight for the right to host American military bases on their territory. They are transforming themselves from transport crossroads into transport dead ends in Europe,” Aleksandr Grushko summed up.
