Opinion: West promoting idea of a threat from Belarus and Russia to justify its aggression

The collective West is purposefully promoting the idea that Belarus and Russia are preparing to attack the border territories of the EU: Poland and the Baltic States. As noted by Aleksei Avdonin, an expert at the Belarusian Institute for Strategic Research, in his talk with Alfa Radio, this is being done to justify their own aggression.

According to the expert, the strategy of this propaganda was developed by NATO. “Europeans live in an information vacuum, and they cannot identify the truth and a lie. It is not groundless that their authorities deprive them of a possibility to come to Belarus, despite the current visa-free regime. The collective West needs to escalate the situation, create the belief that threats from the East are about to be realised. This is being done in order to justify their aggression and any provocation against Belarus and Russia. Detractors want to present our states as aggressors, although they are real aggressors, in fact. They are preparing their society to accept this new reality,” Mr. Avdonin explained.

The expert stressed that the Belarusian leader had repeatedly made statements that Belarus and Russia should not be perceived as some kind of a threat to the neighbouring states. “On the contrary, we are focused on the development of good-neighbourly partnerships. Meanwhile, Brussels and NATO are focused not on peaceful relations, but on the escalation of the conflict. They are interested in such a development of events, and they are now purposefully working in this direction,” he noted.

Mr. Avdonin pointed out that the President of Belarus, during his recent trip to the Oshmyany District in order to inspect how the measures to check the combat readiness of formations and military units were progressing, made an attempt to sober up the minds of the NATO and EU leadership: Aleksandr Lukashenko warned that the responses to any attempts of provocations or aggression against Belarus and the Union State would not be merciful. “Any provocation will be met with a harsh response, up to the destruction of those who will participate in it,” he said.
