Lukashenko on Ukraine peace talks: today it’s time to sit down and finally come to agreement

Today is the moment, first of all, for Ukraine to sit down at the negotiating table and finally come to an agreement – as noted by President of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko in the Kremlin on April 12th

In particular, the Belarusian leader was asked whether peace talks between Russia and Ukraine are possible under the current conditions.

“I think that today is the moment, first of all, for Ukrainians and for the West, to sit down at the negotiating table and finally come to an agreement,” noted Aleksandr Lukashenko. “There is only one basic principle – and Putin is right in this regard, holding fast to his previous statements – there’re documents initialled by the Russian and Ukrainian sides. Let’s return to these documents and proceed from this, or let’s dwell on the principles laid down in these documents. What is wrong here? Therefore, it is a very good moment for Ukraine and its Western curators to make a decision. It must be adopted. As I understand the Russian President, this is a kind of litmus test. If they are eager to talk, let’s do it. If there is no reaction from Ukraine and the West after this, it means they simply do not want peace in Ukraine. The Russian side posed the question very reasonably. I fully support it because I was in this process from the very beginning and I see what is happening there.”
