As noted by Mr. Markevich, Belarus has been historically developing as a multinational country, a home to representatives of 130 nationalities. The state's responsibility for free development of cultures of all national communities is enshrined in its Constitution.

Preserving the diversity of languages, religions and cultures, people in Belarus live a full life, and – according to the Culture Minister – representatives of any nationality and faith can reach the heights of career growth and business success if they are professionals and patriots.

Mr. Markevich noted that friendship and mutual respect of citizens of different nations had aroused not from a scratch. This is the result of many years of work to bring together and enrich the cultures of national communities and support compatriots abroad.

According to the Culture Minister, people in Belarus – where one in three citizens were killed during the Great Patriotic War – understand well that peace is the main wealth and the highest value on our planet. Over the past 80 years, Belarusians have been doing everything to ensure that the republic remains a territory of peace, where international dialogue is ensured.

Mr. Markevich emphasised the importance of the preservation of historical memory, noting that ‘culture today must raise its voice in the name of peace’.

As reported, 700 distinguished guests representing more than 100 countries, including Belarus, are taking part in the forum. High-level statesmen, parliamentarians, religious leaders, scientists, journalists, representatives of various ethnic, linguistic and cultural groups have gathered in Baku to contribute to the promotion of peace and global security through constructive dialogue.

Four sessions and 12 panel discussions of the three-day event are devoted to such topics as education, youth policy, climate change, artificial intelligence, protection of cultural heritage, illegal migration, among others.
