Lukashenko: Belarus, Russia not going to attack Western countries

During today’s working trip to the Grodno Region, President of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko commented – at journalists’ request – on the fugitives’ fake story about the threat of an attack on Western countries from Belarus and Russia

“It’s complete nonsense,” the Head of State said confidently. “We are showing that we are not going to attack anyone. We’re building a defence system here. We don’t need to attack them.”

Aleksandr Lukashenko recalled what he had already said earlier, “May God help us settle the situation with Ukraine. What other war against NATO troops? We don’t need this.”

Meanwhile, our opponents behave exactly in the opposite way. The President stressed, “They’re waiting for it. They provoke us so that we at least somehow respond. Take, for example, the deployment of sabotage groups across the Ukrainian border. Why are they doing that? We don’t attack, we don’t do anything. They initiate this in order to provoke us to respond. They are interested in starting this war. These are absolutely stupid people.”

The Head of State also drew attention to the fact that there are NATO contingents on the other side of Belarus’ border in Lithuania and asked a rhetorical question, “Will they defend Lithuania? This has never happened, and they will not defend it. At the first serious situation, they will run away from the battlefield and do the right thing. Their homeland is Germany and the US. No mercenaries will settle the problem here.”

The President also underlined that about 120,000 Ukrainian military troops are now concentrated in the southern direction. There have been discussions in recent time to transfer either purely French or NATO troops to the border with Belarus, and to move the free forces to the front. Aleksandr Lukashenko concluded, “This is good for us. Firstly, they will not defend Ukraine the way the Ukrainians are defending now. Secondly, we are not going to fight against them. We don’t need this. I have always said and continue to say: we don’t lay claims to someone else’s lands, but we won’t give away ours. Here’s our logic. We don’t need this war... Why do we need to stand head-on and fight against each other? What are we missing here?”

According to Aleksandr Lukashenko, the West is the real beneficiary of the war, “They want us to beat each other here. They will then come to the ashes, print their money and restore these lands, but not in the interests of our nations. Neither in the interests of Lithuania, nor Poland, nor Belarus. Therefore, we need not to fool away our time, but to cultivate these lands, grow bread here and feed our children and grandchildren. This is our goal. We are not going to fight with them. We need them to understand that there will be no threat from here. We’re pleased with everything we have. But if they move in our direction, we will respond very seriously.”
