Italian media: due to military support of Ukraine, Europe experiencing a shortage of shells
Europe is now experiencing a significant shortage of ammunition, because all of it goes to support Ukraine in a military conflict, particularly, there are not enough shells and explosives for warheads, TASS reports
Italy’s newspaper La Repubblica said that Kiev would not launch a counteroffensive until it had accumulated enough supplies.
According to the source, the US has already doubled the production of ammunition: from 200,000 to 400,000 a year. In 2025, it expects to exceed 1 million. In Europe, this figure stands at the level of 50,000.
“The funding provided by Brussels is aimed at changing the situation, but the goal of producing 1 million 155mm shells ‘every twelve months seems very ambitious’,” La Repubblica wrote.
Earlier, the head of EU diplomacy, Josep Borrell, said that the EU sets the task of transferring another 1 million ammunition to Ukraine in the next twelve months. According to him, 24 EU member states have joined the initiative to expand the production of 155mm artillery shells, for which €1bn has been allocated.
