Germany uses Russia's special operation to absolve itself of responsibility for WWII crimes

This opinion was expressed by political expert Aleksandr Shpakovsky as he commented on an incident with Belarus’ national flag in Buchenwald in his talk with Alfa Radio

As reported earlier, on April 10th, an unidentified person publicly removed Belarus’ national flag on the territory of the Buchenwald concentration camp memorial complex, placing a white-red-white canvas instead.

“This whole story is an element of the overall mosaic. It testifies to very profound transformations in the Germans’ minds. They use the fact that [the West] did not recognise the elections in Belarus and Russia's special operation in Ukraine in order to absolve themselves of moral responsibility for the crimes of the Great Patriotic War committed by the Nazi invaders and their accomplices on the territory of the former Soviet republics,” Mr. Shpakovsky said.

The expert noted that German Chancellor Olaf Scholz had previously said that it was time for Germany to get rid of the guilt complex.

“Therefore, blasphemous desecrations of monuments take place in Treptower Park. This has never before been observed. Monuments to Soviet soldiers, soldier-liberators in the countries of Central Europe and the Baltic States are also being demolished. The process began long before the Russian special operation. Therefore, Belarusian flags are being replaced with symbols which were used by collaborators on our territory during the Great Patriotic War. A disgusting incident in Buchenwald is an element of this. Let me remind you that there were many USSR citizens among the 250,000 prisoners of this concentration camp. More than 50,000 people died there, and about 10,000 Soviet prisoners of war who were not even registered by the camp statistics. Inhumane experiments were conducted there," Mr. Shpakovsky stressed.
