German expert explains why Germany refuses to supply modern tanks to Ukraine
Germany is refusing to supply modern tanks to Ukraine because it fears that it will be drawn into the conflict because of this – as noted by political scientist, German independent journalist Gregor Spitzen
The political analyst noted that not all society in Germany is in favour of providing military assistance to Ukraine.
“[German Chancellor Olaf] Scholz will not send German tanks into the war zone, especially since the German cultural elite as a whole is against Germany’s involvement in the conflict. Letters signed by leading figures of culture and arts of Germany regularly appear in the quality German press. People of a high intellectual level understand that Germany does not need this conflict,” Gregor Spitzen noted.
Earlier, Roderich Kiesewetter, a former Bundeswehr general staff officer and politician of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU), expressed the opinion that Olaf Scholz refuses to supply battle tanks to Ukraine, because he fears Moscow’s reaction. According to him, ‘the chancellor was alarmed by the widespread opinion in Russia that the use of German tanks against Russian troops would be a provocation on the part of Berlin’.
