General Staff Chief: level of provocations in airspace remains unchanged but Belarus' capabilities have expanded

The equipping of Belarus’ radio engineering troops with new samples of Belarusian and Russian-made weapons and military equipment increases the capabilities of the Air Force and Air Defence Forces to uncover attempts at provocations and accidental violations – as stated by the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces, First Deputy Defence Minister Viktor Gulevich, commenting on the results of today’s event focusing on the approval by Belarus’ President Aleksandar Lukashenko of the decisions dealing with the state border protection in 2024

According to Viktor Gulevich, the grouping of the air forces of NATO countries, which is concentrated near Belarus’ state border, within the Safe Podlasie operation and as part of the action of the neighbouring countries’ border guards, influences the risks and challenges of protecting the state Border in airspace. “The Armed Forces are taking additional measures to build up the radar field, the forces of the radio engineering troops and electronic warfare, which can successfully carry out measures to detect the violator's aircraft and influence them,” he explained.

The General Staff Chief also stated that the level of provocations in the airspace remained unchanged, while new samples of Belarusian and Russian-made weapons and military equipment that Belarus’ radio engineering troops have received increase the capabilities of the republic’s Air Force and Air Defence Forces to uncover attempts at provocations and accidental violations.

"We can monitor and document these events and, accordingly, put claims to the neighbouring countries, which, I hope, do this not intentionally," Mr. Gulevich summed up.
