Deputy: foreign policy should be built on the basis of interests of one’s own people

Belarus offers visa-free regime to Polish citizens while Polish authorities give us the closure of border crossings and restrictions. This is because the official Minsk is not at war with the people, and we have nothing to hide. Moreover, until quite recently, Poles and Lithuanians willingly went to the border Belarus for cheap fuel and high-quality inexpensive products. What is behind the short-sighted actions of the Polish and Lithuanian authorities? Member of the Standing Commission on Industry, Fuel-Energy Complex, Transport and Communications at the House of Representatives Denis Karas expressed his opinion.

“What the Polish and Lithuanian authorities are now ‘doing’ cannot be called otherwise as short-sighted lawlessness. The closure of border crossings will have the most negative impact on the functioning of well-established logistics chains, but also on the activities of the international business community as a whole. It is very important to understand that such initiatives come primarily not from the direct executors – Poland and Lithuania – but from their Western patrons. The main goal is to block trade between Belarus and Russia with European companies,” the MP believes.

“However, it is necessary to understand that new transport routes will become a factor for raising prices in Europe itself. After all, logistics plays a significant role in shaping the final cost of any product. There are many private companies in the EU that include not only the logistics component in the price of their goods, but also opportunities for further development of the enterprise and encouragement of employees. To stay afloat, these companies will be forced to raise their prices, but how do they stay competitive in the marketplace? There is only one way out: a reduction in various payments and benefits for employees and a massive reduction in staff. Everyone knows what this leads to in Europe: street riots, burned cars, broken shop windows and tear gas from water cannons. Do the Western customers of the border war think about this? Hardly. Just as our neighbours do not think that foreign policy should be built on the basis of the interests of their people and the country’s economy rather than speculative strategies and instructions from overseas curators,” Denis Karas believes.
