Deputy: China keen on joint scientific research

Alongside the investment direction, scientific co-operation with China has been actively developing in recent years – as noted by deputy of the House of Representatives, Director General of the Scientific and Practical Centre for Agriculture of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, Sergei Kravtsov

“There’s an analogue of our State Science and Technology Committee in China, with a special fund established that invests Chinese money in innovative developments,” the expert noted. “The Chinese are keen on our capabilities. In particular, the Republican Scientific and Practical Centre for Agriculture receives Chinese delegations every month. In spring, colleagues from the Heilongjiang Provincial Academy of Agricultural Sciences visited us.”

It unites 30 agricultural organisations and 30,000 employees, and is engaged in selection, seed production, and crop protection products.

“Last week, our employees returned from a business trip, having signed an agreement on scientific and practical co-operation,” continued Sergei Kravtsov. “Our joint project has a great chance of receiving a research grant. Having checked the Belarusian varieties, our colleagues from the Heavenly Empire saw how resistant they are to frost and various diseases. Belarusian genetic material is greatly appreciated. Moreover, we brought samples from China that we are studying in our conditions. University and academic science should use the opportunity to receive such grants through the Commission of the Belarusian-Chinese Intergovernmental Co-operation Committee.”
