Volfovich: CSTO to develop measures to ensure security on its territory

A number of important areas for improving the CSTO activities were considered at today’s meeting of the Committee of Secretaries of the Security Councils of the CSTO member states, and among them was the development of measures to ensure security on the CSTO territory – as informed by the State Secretary of the Security Council of Belarus, Aleksandr Volfovich

“About nine documents have been reviewed: i.e. the regulations on the Mercenary regional anti-terrorist operation, as well as the approval of the regulations on stocks of material assets. The narrow format meeting of the heads of delegations focused on a clear and concise analysis of the military-political situation in the regions of collective security. Its participants noted the challenges and threats that exist in a particular region. A set of appropriate measures was proposed to neutralise them and ensure safety,” Mr. Volfovich said.

The State Secretary of the Security Council noted that, before the meeting, the heads of the CSTO Security Councils met with the President of Belarus. “The Head of State, Chairman of the CSTO Collective Security Council Aleksandr Lukashenko, provided a brief and detailed analysis of the vision of the situation – primarily, in the Eastern European region of collective security, where Belarus is located. The challenges threatening security on the Eurasian continent were also noted, some wishes were expressed, and new tasks were set. In particular, it was stated that the potential of the Committee of Secretaries of the Security Councils is not fully used. We were aimed at a more dynamic and well-coordinated work,” he added.

Mr. Volfovich stressed, “The President noted that unilateral sanctions imposed on individual states threaten the entire collective security. We need to work out joint measures against these sanctions that will ensure security on the territory of our countries. The task was also set to start developing a new concept of collective security up to 2035. This will contribute to strengthening peace and security on the territory of our countries.”
