US doctors sounding alarm over potential ‘triple-demic’ among children

There has been a sharp surge in the simultaneous infection of influenza, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) and coronavirus infection among children across several US states. Because of the increase in the number of cases, there are not enough beds in the wards, RIA Novosti reports.

According to NBC News, medical staff are sounding the alarm on triple-threat of RSV, flu and COVID: the workload of hospitals is so high that there are not enough beds in the wards. It is noted that most often the peak of infections with such diseases occurs in winter.

According to one major pharmaceutical company, disease activity in its clinics has at least doubled in the past two weeks. In Rhode Island, Delaware, Maine and Washington, at least 90 percent of paediatric hospital beds are full.

In several other states, the rate is between 80 and 90 percent. The main problem, according to NBC News, is that more and more paediatric departments across the country have been closing lately, which is straining the system.
