UK to create world’s first AI Safety Institute
British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak announced that the UK will establish the world’s first AI Safety Institute, TASS reports
The politician, giving a speech in London on the development of AI, announced the creation of the world’s first AI Safety Institute in the country. He expressed confidence that this technology will have the same far-reaching consequences as the industrial revolution, electrification, and the advent of the Internet. However, Sunak underlined that new technologies bring new threats and fears.
Explaining his point, the politician said that AI will bring with it new knowledge and new opportunities for economic growth, expanding human capabilities and giving hope for solving problems that were previously beyond our reach. However, if treated incorrectly, AI could make it easier to create chemical or biological weapons.
According to the British PM, terrorist groups can use AI to sow fear and destruction on an even greater scale. Criminals can use AI for cyberattacks, disinformation, and fraud. “And the least likely and extreme scenarios suggest that there is a risk that humanity could completely lose control of AI,” Sunak warned.
