Russia’s Deputy Defence Minister: we highly appreciate Belarus' contribution to strengthening Union State’s defence capability

During a reception at the Belarusian Embassy in Russia on the occasion of Day of Fatherland Defenders and the Armed Forces of the Republic of Belarus, Russia’s Deputy Defence Minister, Colonel General Aleksandr Fomin, noted that Belarus has been the closest neighbour, loyal ally and reliable partner of the Russian Federation, and it remains such. “We highly appreciate the contribution of the Belarusian side to strengthening the defence capability of the Union State,” he stressed.

Mr. Fomin welcomed the participants of the event on behalf of Russia’s Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu, adding that friendship and trust between the peoples of Belarus and Russia are priceless. “On February 23rd, we honour the Fatherland defenders, and this holiday is a part of our common history. On this February day, we remember and honour the participants of the past wars, we are proud of our heroes. On behalf of Russia’s Defence Ministry and myself, I congratulate all personnel of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Belarus, veterans and all defenders of the Motherland on this great holiday. I wish you all good health, family well-being, and new successes for the benefit of the Fatherland," he said.

In his welcoming speech, the Defence Attaché at the Embassy of Belarus in Russia, Aleksei Yershov, noted that the holiday of February 23rd symbolises the continuity of patriotic traditions, courage and fortitude of people in uniform who guard the security and independence of their country.

“The armed forces of Belarus and Russia honourably continue the glorious traditions of heroes and liberators, ensure sovereignty, territorial integrity and make a significant contribution to strengthening the defence capabilities of our countries. This year, the 80th anniversary of Belarus’ liberation from Nazi invaders and the 80th anniversary of the complete lifting of the siege of Leningrad are celebrated, and we feel a special sense of gratitude to the veterans of the Great Patriotic War who defended peace and prosperity on our land, and also place great hopes on our younger generation of future defenders of the Fatherland,” Mr. Yershov stated.

The Defence Attaché stressed that co-operation in the military sphere between Belarus and Russia is a fundamental element in the basis of the Union State building, it is strategic in nature and has been an example throughout the post-Soviet space for many years.

"I am convinced that the Belarusian-Russian military co-operation, based on friendship, trust and mutual understanding, will continue to serve as a guarantee of success in further expanding and strengthening ties for the benefit of our states, as well as contribute to the qualitative fulfilment of tasks to ensure the security and stability of the Union State," Mr. Yershov concluded.
