Rheinmetall CEO: US will not provide assistance to Europeans in case of conflict

The United States will not come to help Europe if a full-scale armed conflict breaks out – as stated by Armin Papperger, CEO of German arms manufacturer Rheinmetall, in his talk with The Financial Times, TASS reports

According to Mr. Papperger, in recent decades, European leaders have taken it for granted that the United States would render assistance in case of a military threat, but ‘that will no longer happen’. He added that the US lawmakers had blocked military aid to Ukraine, thereby sending a ‘very clear message’, namely that, ‘we will no longer pay for you’.

Rheinmetall CEO added that the need to unite the efforts of Europeans in the field of defence is dictated by the political situation in the United States, and Washington ‘pays more attention to the Asia-Pacific region than to Europe’. According to him, if a ‘very risky situation’ in the region causes an armed conflict, ‘the United States will focus on Asia, and Europe will then be left completely alone’.
