Politico: White House nears unprecedented restrictions on investment in China
Washington is exploring the possibility of imposing unprecedented restrictions on investment in China – as noted by Politico sources familiar with the situation, RIA Novosti reports
The US government has reportedly begun discussing the content of US President Joe Biden’s executive order with the business community, including the US Chamber of Commerce.
Most likely, the document will oblige businesses to notify the authorities of new investments in Chinese tech companies and prohibit some deals in critical sectors, including microchips.
According to Politico, the White House plans to limit Beijing’s technological and military development in this way. It is not excluded that Washington will introduce appropriate measures this month.
Moreover, Washington is condiering a potential ban on the TikTok social network owned by Chinese company ByteDance and hiking tariffs for goods from China.
