Opinion: current military-political situation forces Belarus to adjust its military policy

Today, the North Atlantic Alliance (NATO) has come close to the former borders of the Soviet Union, while the former Warsaw Peace Pact countries have become the bloc’s members and have begun to build up their military potential. This increased tensions in Europe, resulting in an adequate response from the Union State and the CSTO member states, which have a joint regional group of troops, forces and air defence systems. Military analyst Igor Chibisov told us how to ensure peace and security in the countries of the Eurasian region in the current explosive international situation.

National and coalition strategic planning documents of the USA and the states of the collective West openly name their opponents: Russia, China and their allied countries, including the Republic of Belarus. Thus, we can conclude that the possibility of a direct military clash with NATO is becoming very obvious (all masks have been dropped). Actually, NATO is currently already at war with Russia in Ukraine at the hands of the Ukrainian people. The only thing that is currently holding back the countries of the ‘golden billion’ from launching a large-scale war is the threat of a nuclear response to their actions. Therefore, Belarus has considered the possibility of returning tactical nuclear weapons (TNW) to its territory as an efficient factor of strategic deterrence. The current military-political situation in the world is forcing our country to adjust its military policy. A new edition of the National Security Concept of the Republic of Belarus will be adopted in the near future. The leaders of Belarus and Russia also gave instructions to prepare a Security Concept for the Union State to strengthen the joint regional group of troops and ensure security within the CSTO not due to the quantity of forces and means (as in NATO), but due to the quality of training of military contingents. This envisages modernisation of old military equipment and weapons, the adoption of new types of them for combat duty. It is also necessary to strengthen integration processes within the CSTO and the CIS, as well as co-operation with the SCO and BRICS. These organisations provide an alternative mechanism for ensuring international security by uniting peoples who do not agree to live under the orders of the United States and the West. At the same time, it is necessary to maintain unity in the CIS, CSTO, and SCO formats. The CSTO is not a closed club of countries. The organisation is always ready to consider the entry of new members who agree with its charter and actions.

Work is also currently underway to update the provisions of the current Military Doctrine of Belarus. The main thing in these draft documents is that Belarus will do everything possible so that no one even tries to tell us, Belarusians, how to live on our land. Our army is ready to repel anyone who tries to encroach on the independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity and constitutional system of the Belarusian state and its allies.
