Morawiecki said Warsaw did not let refugees in 2021 because of EU unwillingness to accept them

During the migration crisis last year, refugees were not allowed to pass on the Polish border, as no one wanted to accept them in Europe – as stated by Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, TASS reports

In an interview with La Stampa, the Polish PM said, “A few months ago <...> thousands of migrants who illegally wanted to enter the EU were taken to the border with Poland. They did not want to stay in Poland, their final destination was the countries of Western Europe. But no one wanted us to accept them and send them to Germany. Our duty was to stop them and send those we could be sent back to their country.”

Mateusz Morawiecki believes that this was a demonstration of a responsible attitude towards protecting the western borders of the European Union.
