Media: possible Western sanctions against Russian diamonds to result in loss of thousands of jobs in India
In India, hundreds of thousands of employees may lose their jobs due to possible G7 sanctions against Russian diamonds, The Financial Times reports with reference to industry experts
Anoop Mehta, the President of the Bharat Diamond Bourse in Mumbai, said Russian diamonds provide 60 percent of jobs in the Indian industry, and about 1 million people are involved in the diamond trade in India.
According to The Economic Times, about 90 percent of the world's diamonds are cut and polished in India.
Earlier, the Axios portal, citing American officials, informed that the G7 countries are discussing the possibility of introducing a ban on imports of diamonds from Russia.
