In total, according to the spokesperson, Poland transferred 758 foreigners to Slovakia: 170 in August and 588 in September. Moreover, Anna Michalska reported that since January 1st, 2023, at least 1,700 illegal migrants – mainly citizens of Syria, Turkiye, Vietnam and Iraq – have been detained on this section of the border.

This week, Poland introduced selective controls on the border with Slovakia. Checks are carried out at three railway, nine road and ten pedestrian crossings. Crossing the border along mountain paths is blocked.

“Slovakia informed [us] that there may be [another] several thousand migrants on its territory who crossed the Hungarian-Slovak border. Now these people will look for some other roads,” added Anna Michalska.

TASS noted that in accordance with the rules of the Schengen zone, border control can be extended several times, but for a period of no more than twenty days. The total period of such control cannot exceed two consecutive months.
