According to the European version of the Politico newspaper, citing sources, the German side is dissatisfied with France's lagging behind Germany in allocating funds to support Ukraine, which persists despite Emmanuel Macron's strong statements.

According to estimates by the German Kiel Institute for the World Economy (IfW Kiel), Paris has sent €640m of military aid to the Ukrainian authorities, while Berlin has transferred or promised to allocate €17.7bn for the relevant purposes. At the same time, French officials emphasise that they are providing Kyiv with really necessary weapons.

Earlier, Emmanuel Macron, following the conference on Ukraine, which was held on February 26th in Paris, did not unequivocally rule out the possibility of sending EU ground forces to the special military operation zone. The French leader also noted that Western countries ‘intend to do everything necessary to prevent Russia’ from winning this conflict. For his part, Olaf Scholz did not answer questions from media representatives and did not share his opinion on why the French president chose such formulations.
