Macron said EU would need reform after new members join

After new members are accepted into the European Union, reforms will need to be carried out in the block – as noted by French President Emmanuel Macron, TASS reports

During a speech to students at the University of Lausanne, Macron noted, “The prospect of enlargement of the European Union implies that it will be reformed. It cannot include 35 or more countries and work the same way as it works with the 27 states within it.”

At the same time, he underlined that the European Union ‘needs to be expanded’, including through the admission of states in the Western Balkans.

“If this does not happen, then other countries will come to the region in order to weaken and divide us,” Macron added.
