Lukashenko signed decree on joint space project with Russia

On April 15th, President of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko signed Decree No. 150 On the Belarusian Space System for Earth Remote Sensing, sb.by reports with reference to the Belarusian leader’s press service

The document envisages the implementation of a joint Belarusian-Russian project aiming to develop the Belarusian space system for remote sensing of the Earth in 2024-2028. The decree determines the project participants from the Republic of Belarus and the conditions for their activities.

After completion of the project, it is planned to launch a Belarusian-Russian ultra-high-resolution Earth remote sensing spacecraft with a service life in orbit of at least seven years.

The use of a spacecraft will significantly increase the efficiency of solving problems to ensure national security, the promptness and quality of space information provided to consumers, while becoming a driver for the development of high-tech industries and technologies in the space industry and attracting talented youth to it.

The implementation of the decree will help consolidate Belarus’ positive image as a space power and a high-tech state, promote domestic knowledge and competencies in the field of peaceful exploration of outer space.
