Latvia preparing to transport Ukrainian grain by rail in autumn

The state-owned Latvian railway company, Latvijas dzelzce (LDz), has expressed readiness to start transporting Ukrainian grain in the autumn – as informed by its CEO Rinalds Plavnieks, TASS reports with reference to the grani.lv portal

“Now there is a [technical] opportunity for the transportation of Ukrainian grain," Mr. Plavnieks noted. According to him, LDz is able to join the process this autumn.

The businessman believes that the volume of transportation of Ukrainian grain through the territory of Latvia can range from 500,000 to 1m tonnes during the year.

Mr. Plavnieks also said that he had met with the Ambassador of Ukraine to Latvia, but did not specify whether they had discussed the issue of Ukrainian grain transportation.
