Klishevich: assistance provided by Belarusian side to refugees is tangible and measurable

Deputy of the House of Representatives at the National Assembly of Belarus, Sergei Klishevich, noted the special contribution of journalists and the entire Belarusian nation in helping people stranded on the Belarusian-Polish border on their way to Europe

“Of course, information work via the media is important. Meanwhile, the main thing that we managed to escape is the appearance of everyday xenophobia. As a rule, it is manifested where ethnic street crime occurs, as it happens in the EU or the USA, when we can see street interference between citizens and foreign asocial elements. This is what creates real ground for anti-migrant sentiments rather than some speculative contemplations about their goals of stay,” the deputy told the sb.by portal. “In this regard, the Internal Ministry noted that refugees do not create crime situations; no incidents and conflicts with Belarusian citizens have been recorded. I think the common reason here is that these people are not criminals and terrorists, as the Poles try to present them, but they are normal educated people, like you and me, with their own system of values.”

Mr. Klishevich drew attention to the fact that recently the President of Belarus directly stated that all the main points of concentration of refugees are currently under silence surveillance.

“This is the right measure, because on our part, conflicts with the local population and between different ethnic groups of refugees are undesirable, as it happens in the Lithuanian and Polish camps,” the deputy believes. “We managed to avoid all this, moreover, we demonstrated that our methods of work are more efficient and more humane compared to ‘European’ ones.
