Italian doctor: Belarusian medicine seriously focused on patients

The Belarusian ambulance service is well organised, and the Belarusian medicine as a whole is at a decent level – as stated by the deputy chief physician of the Mazzoni Hospital in the Italian city of Ascoli Piceno, Dr. Guido Giammarini, who arrived in Minsk within the framework of Belarus-Italy Friendship without Borders

A high level of the Belarusian medicine is recognised in the international community, and the country is among the global leaders. Over the past years, up to 4 percent of Belarus’ GDP have been allocated to the national healthcare system from the state budget, and this corresponds to the threshold value of the social security indicator recommended by WHO and is provided for by the country’s National Security Concept. At the same time, domestic specialists are ready to share their accumulated knowledge, which contributes not only to the improvement of the healthcare system in the country, but also strengthens bilateral relations.

The Italian doctor studied the experience of Minsk’s ambulance station, also taking part in a round table on topical issues of emergency medical care held on the basis of the City Clinical Hospital of Emergency Medical Care.

Dr. Guido Giammarini commented, “I would primarily wish to thank you for the opportunity to see it all. I am very impressed with the level of organisation of emergency medical care, the Belarusian medicine is very much focused on patients. The level of equipment seen and the exchange of information between ambulance crews and patients are also impressive, being organised at a very high level. I am sure this visit will help me and my colleagues professionally: it shows what differences we have and enables us to take note of something. This visit will help establish new relationships, exchange information in the field of medicine and share professional experience. I will be very glad if this visit will be continued in new projects and new opportunities that have opened up.”

“I do not trust words and rumours much, I rather prefer to see everything with my own eyes, to make sure of everything myself. After this visit, I will share the truthful information about what I saw with my Italian colleagues: I will tell them that Belarus has a good organisational structure, and the medicine here is really at a decent level. I have seen highly qualified specialists and wonderful equipment in Belarus. You need to trust your eyes, not ears,” the Italian doctor added.
