German Interior Ministry calling for full security checks at border with Czech Republic and Poland

German Interior Minister Nancy Faeser said it is necessary to open control points on the borders with Poland and the Czech Republic to combat illegal migration, TASS reports

Nancy Faeser said that this kind of control could complement the already existing random checks at the borders of Poland and the Czech Republic. Moreover, she wants to achieve the right for the German federal police to operate in the Czech Republic in order to combat illegal migration. According to her, co-operation of this kind has already been established with Switzerland.

Earlier it was reported that German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier said that the country was at the limit of its capacity to to accept refugees. He also pointed out that in the first half of this year alone, 162,000 people applied for asylum in Germany — more than a third of all applications within the EU.
