Expert: Europe not ready for long-lasting conflict

In the event that the Ukrainian conflict continues too long, Europe will find itself in a very difficult situation – as noted by Daria Sokolan, PhD in Economics, Deputy Dean of the Department of International Economic Relations at the People’s Friendship University of Russia, in her talk with Channel One

European countries continue to provide assistance to Ukraine, although many already recognise that the conflict is becoming too long-lasting. It is unknown how long the confrontation may continue, and the expert commented on how ready Europe is to support Kiev.

“In my opinion, European countries are now in a difficult situation. They did not think that they would be so involved in the conflict. The United States, of course, will do everything in the future to aggravate the situation," Ms. Sokolan said, adding that Washington is interested in eliminating competitors.

“Apart from Russia, the US also wants to get rid of such a competitor as the European Union. In turn, the EU will face a situation in which it will continue to supply weapons to Ukraine, but at the same time the main arms supplies will come from the United States. Europe will find itself in a very unpromising and difficult situation," the expert noted.

The United States will do everything to continue the conflict, as it is beneficial to this country, Ms. Sokolan believes. “Americans may be unhappy, but decisions are made by the US elites, which are interested in continuing to earn money," she stressed.
