Demand for Chinese solar panels has grown sharply in European countries this year, and the EU member states are trying to find alternative energy sources to compensate for the lack of natural gas from the Russian Federation, RIA Novosti reports

According to the Caixin publication which refers to Infolink Consulting LLC, in January-July 2022, the total capacity of photovoltaic modules that China sent to European countries amounted to 51.5 gigawatts (25.9 percent more than in the whole of last year).

It is noted that China is the world's largest supplier of photovoltaic products. In the first seven months of this year, 55 percent of solar panel exports went to Europe, including non-EU countries, while this figure stood at 46 percent in the whole of last year.

“Based on data of the Ember analytical centre, from May to August 2022, solar panels provided 99.4 terawatt-hours of energy in the EU member states, which is 28 percent more than in the same period in 2021,” the publication reads.
