EU military expenditures reached impressive 240bn Euros in 2022

According to the European Defence Agency, the military spending of the EU states increased by 6 percent in 2022 to set a record of 240bn Euros, TASS reports

It is noted that twenty out of 27 EU countries increased the distribution of money for defence, and six of them – by more than 10 percent: Sweden (30.1 percent), Luxembourg (27.9 percent), Lithuania (27.6 percent), Spain (19.3 percent), Belgium (14.8 percent), and Greece (13.3 percent).

58 billion Euros were allocated for the purchase of new types of weapons. It is also not reported what part of the allocations went to military support for Ukraine. However, earlier, EU Foreign Policy Chief Josep Borrell said that the EU countries supplied Ukraine with weapons worth 27bn Euros, which exceeded 11 percent of all military spending in 2022.
