Economist explained why Poland is not interested in importing Ukrainian grain

It will be very difficult for Polish farmers to compete with cheap Ukrainian grain if the latter is allowed to be imported into the country – as stated by Doctor of Economics Nikolai Mezhevich in his talk with the Soloviev Live channel

The European Commission has previously stated that restrictions on imports of some Ukrainian agricultural products to the EU countries will not be extended. In response, Poland, Hungary and Slovakia announced the introduction of their own bans.

“Pay attention to who is the electorate of the ruling Law and Justice party in Poland. These are residents of rural Poland, small towns and villages. These are people who are directly or indirectly connected with agriculture. Poland has excellent agricultural production, and it provided Germans and Swedes with grain for many centuries. However, it is very difficult to compete in the domestic Polish market with cheap Ukrainian grain grown on chernozem," Mr. Mezhevich stressed.

The expert added that Polish farmers today want to be paid European salaries, “They have such a desire. Ukrainian farmers work just to earn enough to buy food and in order not to be drafted into the army. Of course, Ukrainian grain is very competitive on the Polish market, and local producers will go bankrupt if it is allowed there. Therefore, the Polish leadership is doing everything to prevent grain from entering the country. All this talk about a joint war against Moscow is, of course, good, but everyone defends their own interests when it comes to money.”
