Mr. Rakusan made a statement in Brussels at a meeting of the EU Council on Internal Affairs, which focused on migration and expansion of the Schengen area. “We must be prepared for a possible next wave of refugees from Ukraine due to the winter and the destroyed infrastructure in this country," he explained.

Earlier, European Commissioner for Internal Affairs Ylva Johansson said that a programme envisaging reception of Ukrainian refugees in the European Union will be in effect at least until March 2024. At the moment, the EU temporary protection extends to more than 4.2m Ukrainians.
