Chinese MFA says US plans to supply arms to Taiwan damage China’s sovereignty
The Chinese Foreign Ministry said in response to the plans of the US authorities to provide military assistance to Taiwan that no one should underestimate the determination of the Chinese people to defend their sovereignty and territory, RIA Novosti reports
The message on the website of the Chinese Foreign Ministry reads, “This is a serious violation of the One China principle and the provisions of the three China-US joint communiqués. It has a severe impact on the political foundation of China-US relations, and seriously infringes upon China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. It gravely undermines peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait.”
It’s reported that the Chinese authorities are expressing dissatisfaction and protest in connection with the US decision to supply weapons to Taiwan. The Foreign Ministry also urged the US government to stop any form of military interaction with the island and stop ‘creating tensions in the Taiwan Strait’.
Earlier it was reported that in mid-July, Chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff Mark Milley said that the US and its allies should speed up the supply of weapons to Taiwan in order to increase the defence of the island.
