China’s Permanent Representative to UN urges US to stop arms supplies to Ukraine
Washington must stop supplying arms to Kiev, as it undermines diplomatic attempts to settle the Ukrainian conflict – as stated by the Permanent Representative of China to the United Nations, Zhang Jun, commenting on the topic of Ukraine at a meeting of the UN Security Council, TASS reports
“A range of countries, particularly the US, should immediately stop adding fuel to the fire and stop disrupting the diplomatic efforts of the international community [by supplying arms to Ukraine],” said the Chinese diplomat.
He also noted that NATO should ‘abandon the myth of strength and stop making threats and calls for war’. Moreover, he urged all parties to the conflict in Ukraine to comply with the Minsk Agreements, most of the provisions of which have still not been implemented.
In February 2023, the Chinese authorities published a document outlining their position on a political settlement of the crisis in Ukraine, which contains 12 points, including a call for the resumption of dialogue between the parties and an early ceasefire.
