CEC Head: 2025 Presidential campaign showed unprecedented level of openness and transparency
The 2025 Presidential campaign in Belarus has demonstrated an unprecedented level of openness and transparency – as stated by Chairman of Belarus’ Central Election Commission (CEC) Igor Karpenko during the Experience and Prospects of Development of the Electoral System of Belarus seminar-meeting
The participants of the event discussed the results of the 2022-2025 election cycle and the updated electoral legislation during the recent election.
“The 2025 campaign has demonstrated an unprecedented level of openness and transparency,” Mr. Karpenko emphasised. “This was facilitated by fully informing the population about the course of the election campaign. By using various forms and methods of information work in co-operation with all interested government agencies and organisations, we managed to create an atmosphere of transparency at all stages of the campaign. This strengthened confidence in the electoral system as a whole.”
At the same time, the CEC Head noted that the Information Centre was operating in a brand new format. This format had traditionally been created to cover the voting process and provide information about the election promptly to both the media and foreign observers.
“A total of 481 representatives from 25 Belarusian media outlets and 331 journalists from 70 foreign media outlets worked at the CEC Information Centre,” Mr. Karpenko added. “Foreign media were represented by major outlets from 23 countries across Asia, the Middle East, Europe, Latin America, and North America.”
Separately, the Chairman of the Central Election Commission praised the Belarusian media for providing citizens with prompt updates, the local authorities for decorating settlement areas with election information, and government agencies, organisations, public associations and educational institutions for their legal education initiatives.
