Belarus-Russia student team to work at patriotic centre construction site
In the year of the 80th anniversary of Belarus’ liberation from the Nazi invaders, the Belarusian-Russian student labour team will take part in the construction of the Republican Centre for Patriotic Education of Youth on the premises of the Kobrin fortification of the Brest Fortress – declared an All-Belarusian youth construction site by the Presidential decree – as stated by the First Secretary of the Belarusian Republican Youth Union’s Central Committee, Aleksandr Lukyanov
“Such an initiative has been voiced at the Sochi World Youth Festival during the Student Teams Building the Union State Together panel discussion. The Brest Fortress is a powerful source of patriotic energy. We invited our colleagues from Russian Student Teams organisation to create a joint interstate labour project and send a Belarusian-Russian joint student team to the All-Belarusian youth construction site in Brest. We boast vast co-operation experience with the Russian Student Teams, and this project will enable youngsters from Belarus and Russia to contribute to the preservation of historical memory in such an important year for our country while laying a reliable patriotic foundation for future generations,” said Aleksandr Lukyanov.
The first Union State student construction team, formed to work on the construction of the patriotic centre, will arrive in Brest in June. “Of course, this squad will be formed on a competitive basis, like all our student brigades that take part in the nationwide labour projects. The best youngsters will arrive at the centre construction site. It is very symbolic that the ceremony of presenting the work permit to the first Union State student team is scheduled for June 21st: on the eve of the National Remembrance Day of the Victims of the Great Patriotic War and the Genocide of the Belarusian People,” added the First Secretary of the BRSM Central Committee.
Currently, the first stage of creating the Republican Centre for Patriotic Education of Youth is actively underway on the premises of the Kobrin fortification of the Brest Fortress, with 1,130 people having worked here so far as part of student (75) and volunteer teams (1,055). On March 7th, the Brigada (Brigade) student construction team named after Hero of the Soviet Union Vasily Korzh, created on the basis of Soligorsk State College, completes its work. On March 10th, representatives of the Masherovtsy student construction team named after Hero of the Soviet Union Piotr Masherov (Vitebsk State University named after P.M. Masherov) will begin work, alongside the Dostizhenie (Achievement) student construction team named after Hero of the Soviet Union Yevgeny Ivanovsky (Vitebsk State University of Technology).
Aleksandr Lukyanov recalled that fundraising for the centre construction continues and signing up for the volunteer team pool is possible via the BRSM Central Committee hotline.
