Belarus increased exports to Asia, China and Africa in January

Belarus increased exports to Asia, China and Africa in January – as informed by the First Deputy Economy Minister, Andrei Kartun

According to Mr. Kartun, physical volumes of Belarusian exports actually increased by 13 percent in January, “As for foreign trade, the growth rate of exports of goods and services has not yet gained the desired momentum – standing at just 101 percent. Nevertheless, Belarus has secured a positive balance of almost $100m.”

Mr. Kartun added that the main drivers of export growth are consumer and so-called intermediate goods. “We continue to maintain high rates in terms of physical export volumes. The increase has reached almost 13 percent, which made it possible to compensate for the decline in export prices,” he explained.

The official noted that the value of exports of goods amounted to $3.1bn and, as expected, the cost factor will cease to affect Belarus’ performance by late H1 and export growth rates will increase against the same physical volumes.
