Russia’s Ministry of Economic Development collected proposals from Russian regions: 36 subjects expressed interest in establishing direct air travel with Belarus or expanding existing flights, with 13 reporting on the feasibility of expanding road (bus) and railway connections.

The Russian department underlined that Belarus enjoys popularity among Russian tourists, being among the top-10 foreign destinations for Russians. At the same time, in 2023, the number of trips to Russia by Belarusian tourists doubled compared to the previous year.

“To further increase the number of tourist trips, it is necessary to expand transport accessibility and develop new cross-border routes,” said Russia’s Deputy Minister of Economic Development Dmitry Vakhrukov.

Last year, the Union State programme to unify legislation in the field of tourism was successfully implemented. Dmitry Vakhrukov stressed that Russia considers it important in the future to co-ordinate all innovations in national tourism legislation with the Belarusian side.
