Earlier, South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol held his first personal meeting with Zelenskyy on the sidelines of the G7 summit in Hiroshima. Yoon Suk Yeol promised to provide additional assistance to Ukraine following the meeting. In particular, they discussed the transfer of demining vehicles and ambulances.

“I know there are many limitations regarding weapons support. However, I think that these principles of South Korea should not be applied to defence systems and power grid protection equipment that South Korea does not yet supply,” Zelenskyy said in an interview with the South Korean daily Chosun Ilbo.

According to the Ukrainian President, air defence systems are not weapons. Zelenskyy added that in order to restore Ukraine after the hostilities, the country needs a ‘sky shield’. In this regard, Kiev counts on the support of South Korea, the Ukrainian leader stressed.

“In addition, there is an early warning system that reports Russian airstrikes, and in this area we need the help of South Korea,” he added.
