He noted that a frank conversation took place, “It primarily concerned the situation in the CSTO area of responsibility, including in the Caucasus region. I informed the Belarusian Head of State in detail about the results of the work of the CSTO mission in Armenia, which was directed there by the Collective Security Council. At the last week’s CSTO online summit, proposals were discussed based on the results of the mission. The conversation is not over yet. These proposals are currently being finalised and this topic will be further discussed at the upcoming Collective Security Council session. Therefore, considerable attention was paid to the situation in the Caucasus region, primarily on the border between Armenia and Azerbaijan, and possible steps taken by the CSTO aiming to stabilise the situation and reach peace agreements.”

According to Stanislav Zas, the situation in other regions was also discussed, “This also applies to the countries of the Asian region. I informed the Head of State about the situation on the Tajik-Kyrgyz border, about the events that took place there in September 2022, and about what is happening there now, including taking into account my last visit to both the Kyrgyz Republic and the Republic of Tajikistan. The situation in the Eastern European region was also under consideration: that very difficult situation in which we now find ourselves.”

Another topic of the meeting between the President of Belarus and the CSTO Secretary General was the preparation for the upcoming session of the Collective Security Council, as well as the preparation of the priorities of the Belarusian chairmanship in the CSTO next year.

Stanislav Zas asserted, “The requirement of the Head of State is simple and understandable: these priorities should not be abstract and far-fetched. They should address the pressing issues our organisation is facing nowadays.”

Summing up the results of the meeting, the Secretary General emphasised, “I am grateful to the President for such frankness. A direct, honest and frank approach was demonstrated during the last week’s summit of the CSTO heads of state and, I think, it was appreciated.”
