Zakharova says Ukraine’s nuclear facilities are under Russia’s control

The Russian Federation has taken control of a number of nuclear facilities in Ukraine in order to prevent nuclear provocations by militants, such a threat exists – as informed by the official representative of Russia’s Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, TASS reports

"During a special operation, the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation have established control over the Chernobyl and Zaporozhye nuclear power plants and the territories adjacent to them. This step was taken exclusively to prevent Ukrainian nationalist and other terrorist groups as well as foreign mercenaries from using the current situation in the country to organise nuclear provocations, and these risks really exist," Ms. Zakharova said.

According to her, Russia is taking all necessary measures to ensure the safety of these facilities. “Russia has a developed nuclear industry, and it is fully aware of potential risks to the nuclear infrastructure – doing everything in its power to ensure the proper safety of Ukraine's nuclear facilities," the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry added.
