Volfovich: Poland's plan to deploy new division near Belarus’ borders is aggressive step towards CSTO

The State Secretary of the Security Council, Aleksandr Volfovich, said Poland's plans to deploy a new division near the borders of Belarus are an aggressive step towards the CSTO, BelTA reports

"How can I comment on this? It is Poland’s aggressive policy and unfriendly attitude towards not only Belarus, but also the Union State and the CSTO as a whole, and this could hardly be regarded differently. Unfortunately, Poland and the Baltic States are aimed at militarisation, increase of their military component and military activity, deployment of new formations and units, armament with new models of military equipment which is not defensive, but offensive. How can this be viewed? It can only be regarded as readiness for some kind of aggression. Reconnaissance flights and the number of exercises conducted definitely cannot contribute to peace and security," Mr. Volfovich stressed.

The State Secretary of the Security Council added that Belarus is monitoring the situation developing at its borders. "The recent decision of the presidents of Belarus and Russia to deploy a regional group of troops on the territory of Belarus indicates that we are taking steps primarily for strategic deterrence, cooling the heads of some Western politicians," he said.

"The regional group of troops deployed on the territory of Belarus is exclusively defensive, aimed at protection of the Union State borders and, accordingly, the CSTO western border," Mr. Volfovich explained.
