The publication, quoted by the news agency, reads, “The Biden Administration and the Venezuelan government of President Nicolás Maduro have agreed to a deal in which the United States would ease sanctions on Venezuela’s oil industry and the authoritarian state would allow a competitive, internationally monitored presidential election next year.”

According to the newspaper, Washington plans to announce sanctions after the current Venezuelan government signs an agreement with the US-backed opposition to commit to holding ‘freer’ elections in 2024.

An informed source for the publication clarified that the deal does not include the unfreezing of Venezuelan assets in the United States.
