UN: hunger may affect 8% of world's population by 2030

Vladimir Kuznetsov, the Director of the UN Information Centre in Moscow, said the food security situation could worsen by 2030, and up to 8 percent of the world's population will face hunger, TASS reports

“The world organisation predicts, unfortunately, that the situation will worsen by 2030, and about 8 percent of the population may face hunger. At the moment, this figure stands at about 3 percent,” Mr. Kuznetsov said.

The official added that a turning point has come in the world in the issue of achieving sustainable development. According to him, ‘poverty, hunger and inequality are growing contrary to the goals set in the UN agenda for the sustainable development of mankind’.
